The University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York announces the formation of a new research institute, the Aab Institute of Biomedical Sciences. The Institute is the centerpiece of a 10-year, $400 million strategic plan to expand the Medical Centers research programs in the basic sciences. It's headquartered in a new, 240,000 square foot research building on the campus of the Medical Center. The Aab Institute of Biomedical Sciences enhances the Universitys strong biomedical research program by creating an organizational structure and professional environment that foster outstanding interdisciplinary research. The institute structure allows scientists to focus their efforts on research by minimizing the academic and administrative responsibilities that often distract academic scientists. Researchers within the institute will benefit from close associations with colleagues within the institute and throughout the University. To complement the strengths of the Medical Centers existing faculty and programs, the Institute is organized into six interdisciplinary research centers. More than 50 new faculty positions (assistant professors, associate professors, professors, and center directors) are being created to make each center the premier site in the United States for research. Generous startup packages will be provided, including support for equipment, supplies and personnel. Investigators will have tenure-track appointments in the Center and cross-appointments in one of the Departments in the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Candidates with proven abilities in research are invited to apply for openings in the following areas:
