Future research advances will come from studies at the interface of traditional disciplines. The Center for Oral Biology consists of several interdisciplinary research teams, which integrate and blend aspects of biochemistry, developmental biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, physiology, pharmacology and structural biology to explore important problems of craniofacial, dental and oral biology.

The Center occupies 22,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of the Kornberg Medical Research Building. The Center is also equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, making it an ideal place for students and postdoctoral fellows to gain the most modern scientific training.

For nearly 75 years, the University of Rochester has trained dentists and other qualified individuals for academic careers in research related to oral health and disease. The Center is an integral component of a major research university and collaborates closely with other University departments and centers in all areas of oral science research. The quality of this research has been regarded by extensive support from federal and industrial sources.
