HIC Lab Director

Sally A. Quataert, Ph.D.

Dr. Sally A. Quataert, Director of the Human Immunology Center (HIC) Core Laboratory is an internationally recognized expert in bioanalytical method development and standardization. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and has over 25 years in the pharmaceutical and medical device fields. Under her leadership and scientific direction, her laboratory at Wyeth Vaccines (formerly Lederle-Praxis Biologicals) established W.H.O. recognized methods for evaluating serological correlates for immune protection with polysaccharide conjugate vaccines for Neisseria meningitis, Haemophilus influenzae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Dr. Quataert has extensive experience in conducting inter-laboratory studies and method validation in support of pre-clinical and clinical testing. She was responsible for all aspects of laboratory regulatory compliance and quality systems management in the performance of clinical trial evaluations for vaccine development at Wyeth. Prior to joining Wyeth, Dr. Quataert worked for Electro-Nucleonics, Inc. and Corning Glass Works in the development of immunodiagnostic tests and monoclonal antibody reagents for the biomedical field. Early in her career, Dr. Quataert's interest focused in developing methods for the evaluation of human immune responses in the field of tumor immunology. Her goals for the HIC Core lab are to reduce to practise the highest quality innovative bioanalytical techniques for evaluation of human immune responses and to assist biomedical researchers in the acquisition and execution of these techniques.
