Renovations
If you haven’t
visited Bibby Library lately, you might be surprised by the changes.
We recently installed new carpeting and a service desk and purchased
new chairs for the computer workstations. In addition, we now have
a
security system to help prevent the loss of books and journals. Books
are deactivated on checkout, so if an alarm sounds
when
leaving, please stop by the service desk to make sure they
have been properly checked out. Special thanks to Dr.
Meyerowitz,
Tom Venner, and Johnson Controls for their support and assistance in
updating the library’s facilities. We hope you will stop by
and take a look!
Bibby
Library "Housecalls"
The Bibby Library
invites you to participate in the newest component of our digital literacy
program, Housecalls –
a brief visit to your workspace to make the Digital Library work harder
for you. Housecalls is
a collaborative program with Miner Library. During
a Housecall, the librarian
can:
- Provide an
overview/personal tour of the Digital Library
- Show you how
to determine if we have a particular citation or journal on-line
- Identify resources
best suited for your research or patient care
- Give you an
overview of resources and databases of your choosing
Call Pam White
in the Bibby Library at 275-3247 to arrange a time for us to come to
you!
Computer Update
•
Ways to Save: The library computers are equipped with floppy
drives, zip drives, and USB drives, thus providing several options
for
saving your work. Disks may be purchased at the computer store on the
lower level of the Medical Center. Please note: it is possible
to save to the desktop, but due to routine maintenance, we can't
guarantee
that your files will be there when you return.
•
Scanner: The library scanner is now fully operational. Instructions
for using the scanner are attached to the workstation. Photoshop Elements
is available on the attached computer for more complex editing functions.
If you need help using the scanner, please see a library staff member
for
assistance.
Welcome
New Residents!
Pam, Beth, and
the student assistants would like to extend a warm welcome to all
of
Dentistry's newest residents. We are here to help you with all of your
information needs. Please feel free to approach any of our staff
for
reference assistance, or for instruction in using the library's resources.
Student
Assistants
We are fortunate
to have students on our staff who keep the library open on the evenings
and weekends. We recently welcomed four new students to our staff: Rebecca
Braun, Betty His Mei, Ann Miller, and Pranay Vaddi. These students,
as well as Rachel and Elizabeth, will work through the summer and into
the academic year. Students are trained in using the library’s
resources and are ready to assist you with your information needs.
Dentistry
Research
The bulletin board
located outside the entrance to the library is continuing to showcase
Dentistry’s research. If you have had a paper published recently,
please contact us and we'll post it. Papers are rotated approximately
every two months, so stop and take a look at what your colleagues have
been doing lately.
