OVERVIEW

Cyril Meyerowitz, BDS, MS, has served as principal investigator or director on a number of research and educational grants and commercial contracts. Dr. Meyerowitz's research interests are focused around the effect of salivary hypofunction on dental caries including the use of fluorides to prevent caries in patients with reduced salivary function and the utility of controlled fluoride release devices in this population. The latter includes patients who have had head and neck radiation. He is also interested in the oral aspects of medically compromised patients, such as patients with HIV, chronic renal failure, or developmentally disabled conditions. His third area of research is focused on postdoctoral general dentistry -- the impact of this education on graduates, patients, and institutions and innovative educational approaches to this endeavor.

Dr. Meyerowitz has extensive experience as an educator, clinician, and researcher. In addition to publishing numerous articles, book chapters, and abstracts, he has been actively involved in dental education having initiated and then served as Chair New York State Council of Deans. He is a consultant to the American Dental Association and serves on the Commission on Dental Accreditations review committee for Postdoctoral General Dentistry. Dr. Meyerowitz is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists.
