The Observation Unit
Highland Hospital’s Observation Unit is designed to provide high-quality, personalized care for patients who are expected to require evaluation and treatment for a period of time between eight and 24 hours.
Some conditions that may result in a visit to the Observation Unit include chest pain, dehydration, asthma, abdominal pain or kidney stones, minor infections
Our staff closely monitors the conditions of our patients and streamlines their testing and necessary treatments such as intravenous fluids, pain medication or antibiotics.
Patients whose conditions improve or can be managed at home will be discharged, along with a plan for appropriate care.
Patients whose conditions fail to improve or worsen will be admitted to the hospital for further management.
For the comfort of our patients, the Observation Unit is in a separate, newly-renovated area with private rooms, hospital beds and televisions. Meals are served to patients whose condition permits them to eat.
