Mandatory Training for Staff

You must complete the training outlined below within the first 30 days of hire. The Medical Center Libraries and Technologies (MCL&T) administrator must track and report compliance for the training outlined below. Therefore, either your signature and, in some instances, a quiz is required.

Must be completed one time only, within 30 days of hire or appointment, unless new modules are released.
(Please note: The complete HIPAA Policy & Training Manual is available for reference on the URMC intranet.)

Mandatory In-Service Education

Each of us is responsible for completing the Mandatory In-Service Education regarding internal policies and procedures, Joint Commission and OSHA standards, and other mission-critical information within the first 30 days of hire and annually thereafter (usually by June 30).

The test is offered in six formats, each one designed for a specific audience. Most MCL&T staff will take Test A; some staff will be required to take Test B or Test D. (If you are unsure which version to take, please check with your supervisor or the administrator.) You may choose to study the accompanying materials first (available here or in Blackboard) or, you may go ahead and take the test, without studying. However, you must pass with a score of at least 90%. If you do not pass the test, you must review the training material to ensure full understanding of the topics and then attempt the test again.

The method for accessing the training material, and accessing and taking the test, is through Blackboard. Follow these Instructions for Self-Enrolling into a URMC Blackboard Course.

The six test options are:

Test A - for everyone regardless of duties or position, who does not have patient care responsibilities, does not enter a patient room, and does not work at Highland in addition to URMC-Strong. This test contains all the general topics (e.g., URMC-SMH Fire Safety, Code of Ethics).

Test B – for everyone who has patient care responsibilities and/or enters a patient room, does not work at Highland in addition to URMC-Strong, and is not a Provider). This test contains all the topics in Test A plus the patient-care-related topics (e.g., URMC-SMH Fire Safety, Code of Ethics, DNR, MOLST).

Test C – for everyone who has patient care responsibilities, enters a patient room, works at HH as well as URMC-SMH, but is not a Provider; this test contains all the topics in tests A and B plus the HH addendum. (e.g., URMC-SMH Fire Safety, Code of Ethics, DNR, MOLST; HH Conflict of Care procedures, HH fire codes)

Test D - for everyone who does not have patient care responsibilities but who also works at HH in addition to URMC-Strong; this test contains all the topics in test A plus the HH addendum. (e.g., URMC-SMH Fire Safety, Code of Ethics; HH Conflict of Care procedures, HH fire codes).

Test options for PROVIDERS ONLY (Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Physicians):
