HIPAA Job-Specific Privacy & Security Training

Must be completed one time only, within 30 days of hire or appointment, unless new modules are released. (Your supervisor or department administrator will let you know if this occurs.)

Video training modules are available online in Blackboard. You will need to set up a Blackboard account if you do not already have one, and directions for creating an account are on the Blackboard website. Once you've logged into Blackboard, click on COURSES in the menu tab and type "HIPAA video" in the COURSE SEARCH box. Follow the instructions provided on subsequent pages, and compliance will be automatically recorded in HRMS.

Mandatory In-Service Training

Must be completed within the first 30 days of hire or appointment, and annually thereafter (usually by June 30).

The test is offered in six formats, each one designed for a specific audience. Student assistants, like most MCL&T staff, will take Test A (for everyone who does not have patient care responsibilities, does not enter a patient room, and does not work at Highland in addition to URMC-Strong).

You must pass with a score of at least 90%. If you do not pass the test, you must review the training material to ensure full understanding of the topics and then attempt the test again.

The method for accessing the training material, and accessing and taking the test, is through Blackboard. Follow these Instructions for Self-Enrolling into a URMC Blackboard Course. Acrobat reader

When you have completed the training module, please print out and complete this form; give it to your supervisor.
