The Reference staff of the Edward G. Miner Library offers assistance to investigators with meeting the literature search requirements of the Animal Welfare Act and the University of Rochester’s University Committee on Animal Resources (UCAR). The following options are available to assist you:
Tips - Miner’s “Searching for Animal Testing Alternatives” handout provides tips to investigators who prefer to do their own literature searches.
Saved search - Miner’s saved search strategy assists investigators using Ovid Medline for their alternatives search. The “Saved Search for Animal Testing Alternatives in Medline” handout provides detailed information about using this stored strategy.
Consult - Investigators doing their own literature search can consult with a Reference librarian for assistance with developing relevant search strategies for their specific protocol. Strategies are designed to prevent duplication of research and to address alternatives. There is no fee for this service.
Librarian does the search - A Miner Reference librarian can do the literature search. The investigator first meets with a librarian to discuss his/her protocol subject. The librarian then designs search strategies to prevent duplication of research and address alternatives, and performs the search. There is no charge to URMC affiliates for Medline searches. Fees vary for other databases.
Note: It is strongly recommended that investigators keep copies of their search strategies as documentation.
