Faculty Research
The University of Rochester Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology faculty have 13 active basic research grants totaling over 21 million dollars. The Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology Unit is part of an NIH Autoimmune Center of Excellence through which it supports innovative approaches to the study and treatment of autoimmune diseases. It is also a Center for Biodefense of Immunocompromised Populations and is broadening our understanding of normal human immune function and of the abnormalities induced by chronic TNF blockade through these efforts. The Clinical Immunology Research Center participates in cutting edge studies of the newest treatments for autoimmune, rheumatic and allergic diseases. In addition to conventional drug studies aimed to improve the efficacy and safety of current therapies, our clinical research center also carries out experimental protocols of particular interest for patients not responding to conventional therapy. The Unit currently has over 13 active clinical trials in progress plus several active clinical research projects.
