Department of Medicine/Geriatric Medicine Unit American Board of Internal Medicine Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine Dr. Thomas Caprio joined the faculty as an instructor in 2004. He graduated cum laude from the SUNY at Buffalo Medical School and completed his residency training in internal medicine at the University of Rochester and Strong Memorial Hospital. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester clinical fellowship in geriatric medicine based at Monroe Community Hospital and the HRSA funded Interdisciplinary Geriatric Fellowship Program. Dr. Caprio is active in teaching geriatrics to medical students, residents, and fellows. He has served as a Master Clinician Teacher for the medical school and is the faculty advisor to the medical student Aging Interest Group. Clinical activities include attending on the Acute Care for Elders Unit at Highland Hospital and the Geriatric Assessment Clinic at Monroe Community Hospital. Dr. Caprio is the first participant in the University of Rochester Research Training Grant in Geriatrics and Gerontology funded by the National Institute on Aging. He is working in collaboration with Dr. Paul Katz and Dr. Jurgis Karuza and pursuing an MPH in Clinical Investigation through the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine. His professional and research interests are in palliative care education, comprehensive geriatric assessment, and physician practice in nursing homes.
