Helena Temkin-Greener, Ph.D, MPH
Research Associate Professor in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
She is the PI on the NIH/NIA funded study to measure the performance of nursing home teams and to investigate the impact of team performance on patient care outcomes (e.g. change in ADLs, pressure ulcers, and urinary incontinence). Dr. Temkin-Greener is also the PI on a study funded by the National PACE Association. This study is designed to evaluate the impact of the newly implemented Medicare risk-adjustment payment model on PACE programs nationally, and to identify diagnostic indicators for quality improvement. She is also the co-PI on two projects. One of the projects is funded by the NIA to examine outcomes in the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between structure, process and risk-adjusted health outcomes in PACE. The second study, funded by the Aetna Foundation, examines the effects of systematic screening and early palliative care intervention for seriously ill home-care patients with advanced cancer and with congestive heart failure. Dr. Temkin-Greener also directs the Population Data Laboratory, a research support center located in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine. The Laboratory was developed with seed funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to enable students (MPH and Ph.D.) and faculty researchers to access clinically relevant databases, and to facilitate their interest in outcomes and health services research. A clinical/health services research fellow could become involved in these projects and could learn how to conduct longitudinal data analyses.
