Anton Portsteinsson, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Iceland School of Medicine in 1987. In 1989, he came to the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry to complete his residency. Dr. Porsteinsson has clinical and research interests in dementia, cognitive deficits associated with that disorder, as well as behavioral changes. He participates in the University of Rochester's Geriatric Neurology and Psychiatry clinic, which primarily serves a population with memory disorders. Active in clinical research, his interests lie in novel pharmacologic agents, the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, both in terms of cognitive loss and behavioral disturbances. He has major clinical trials with respect to examining anticonvulsants in the treatment of agitation in dementing disorders, cognitive enchancers and course stabilizing agents in dementia, as well as other psychotropics for behavioral changes associated with dementia.
