Highland Hospital American Board of Internal Medicine Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hospice and Palliative Medicine Dr. Daniel Mendelson attended Rochester Institute of Technology, completing a bachelors in chemistry in 1988. With a scholarship from the National Institute of Health's Medical Scientist Training Program, he obtained both a Medical Degree and a Masters of Science in biophysics at the University of Rochester in 1995. His graduate work was in the field of solid state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. During the latter half of medical school, he was introduced to primary care and geriatrics. This became his focus during residency in the Primary Care Program in Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester. Having completed his geriatric fellowship at the University of Rochester, Dr. Mendelson has developed academic and clinical interests in acute care of elders, hospice and palliative medicine, long-term care, and home care. Dr. Mendelson is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics & Healthy Aging of the Department of Medicine, University of Rochester Medical Center. He is the Medical Director of the Acute Care for Elders Unit at Highland Hospital, Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester and Monroe County, Arbor Hill Care Center, and the Baird Nursing Home. He serves as Associate Medical Director of Strong Health Geriatrics Group. He is a member of the Strong Health Palliative Care Consultation Service and provides palliative care consultation at both Highland Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital. He has board certifications in Internal Medicine with Added Qualifications in Geriatrics from the American Board of Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine from the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
