Added Qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry

Jeffrey M. Lyness, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Rochester in 1986. He completed a year of internal medicine internship at UR, then psychiatry residency training at Yale University, then clinical and research fellowships in geriatric psychiatry at UR.

His research interests focus on depression and medical comorbidity in older adults. NIMH-funded studies are examining the examination of the relationship of major depression, and so-called "minor" and "subsyndromal" depressions, to functional status and other quality of life outcomes in primary care, cardiac patients, and other medically ill populations. He also is using a risk factor approach to test outcome predictors based on theoretical models of the possible relationships between medical illnesses and depression. He is active with clinical education, especially at the postdoctoral fellow and medical student levels. He has received a number of awards and national-level recognition for his clinical, teaching, and research efforts.
