| Research activities in the Department of Medicine are at an all time high. The recruitment of key new faculty (65 recruited in the last four years) focused on research initiatives ensures continued growth. Total research funding for the 2001-2002 academic year was $32 million. As reported by the NIH, the department's NIH research total funding increased from $11 million in 1998 to $20 million in 2001, and was over $23 million in 2002. The Department's national ranking based on NIH funding is currently 39th. In summary, enormous continued growth has been achieved in the research activities of the department. As a result, new investigators have been recruited and new or renovated space has been obtained to meet those needs including 30,000 sq. ft. additional research space dedicated to the department in MRBX and 9,000 sq. ft. in Kornberg Medical Research Building. |
