PACS 2005
5th Annual Conference

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:
  • Understand the basic knowledge necessary to initiate the implementation of PACS for most clinical specialties.
  • Understand the importance of open standards, e.g. HL7, DICOM, etc., in the implementation of the digital healthcare environment as well as for electronic medical record.
  • Explain why a Healthcare Enterprise Archive (HEA) is preferred to isolated islands of stored information for each clinical application so you can optimize productivity, patient care and ROI.
  • Provide an overview of the modalities, databases and workflow for clinical applications so information technology, administrators and other healthcare personnel in the HE understand the requirements to implement PACS and the HEA.
  • Explain the impact the digital information environment has on workflow and productivity and why significant changes are required in the workplace environment and personal behavior to maximize the benefits of the transition from analog to digital.
  • Explain the essential security requirements for the Digital Healthcare Enterprise (DHE).
  • Explain the importance of DICOM GPWL and single log-on across the HE for a truly productive and integrated HE.
