General Lists of Resources by Specialty/SubspecialtyThe College of American Pathologists has an extensive list of Internet resources for AP, CP and the basic sciences. Medscape Today is a news portal for physicians and other healthcare professionals. It can be viewed with different foci--e.g. dermatology, infectious diseases, molecular medicine, transplantation--and offers links as well as news. Louis B. Caruana, Ph.D., MT(ASCP) maintains two pages of pathology-related links, Clinical Laboratory Science Internet Resources and Oncologic Pathology Internet Resources. They are frequently updated. Blood Banking and Transfusion MedicineAmerican Association of Blood Banks and the journal Transfusion. Blood Substitutes, Past, Present and Future. An annotated slide presentation by Glen Dietz of the London (Ontario) Health Sciences Center. The University of Alberta posts a number of transfusion medicine modules developed for distance learning courses--genetics, immunology, methods, ABO, Rh, and pretransfusion testing. Also extensive lists of genetics and transfusion medicine resources. Clinical ChemistryAmerican Association for Clinical Chemistry has a job bank, several list-serv discussion groups, the usual membership, meetings, and publications information, and some interesting pages on B2B and e-commerce. CytopathologyUpper New York State Society of Cytology. URMC Cytotechnologist Sharon Leo is organizing this site. Contact her if you would like to submit a case or for information regarding membership. CytoJournal is a new (2004) "open access, peer-reviewed, PubMed indexed, online journal". As of the end of September, there were only three articles, but it's an interesting idea. International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Screening Group. Atlases of cytopathology and histopathology of the uterine cervix. Also: DermatopathologyAmerican Society of Dermatopathology has links to a number of journals and other professional organizations. Atlas of Skin Diseases with contributors from Masaryk University in Brno and other locations in the Czech Republic, and from Johns Hopkins in the U.S. University of Iowa Department of Dermatology offers skin disease images, DermPathTutor, and Dermatology Differential Diagnosis by Morphology. HematopathologyNagoya University's "Pathy" has some miscellaneous images, but mostly an Atlas of Hematology. HistologyImmunoquery, an immunohistochemistry database which can provide lists of antibodies for a given diagnosis, lists of immunostains to differentiate between two diagnoses, or a list of diagnoses for a given immunostain. National Society for Histotechnology has society information, a job board, journal contents. Gunter von Hagen's Bodyworlds. Information on the exhibits and on plastination. See also International Society for Plastination. MicrobiologyAll the Virology on the Web "seeks to be the best site for Virology information on the Internet". It's cool and comprehensive. American Society for Microbiology. Microbiology and Immunology On-Line. Online textbook from the University of South Carolina Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The Department of Microbiology of Monash University in Australia is a good starting point for malaria and leptospirosis and has links to a number of microbiology sites. (Monash has 42,000 students at eight campuses in Australia, Malaysia, and South Africa.) University of Cape Town Divisions of Medical Microbiology and Virology. Excellent medical student lecture notes, information on antibiotic use. NeuropathologyAmerican Association of Neuropathologists - Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Biology Brain Pathology has cases of the month and discussion boards in addition to journal articles. Neuroanatomy and Neuropathology on the Internet. Maintained by the Department of Neurology of the University of Debrecen, Hungary. Attractive, big, focused, and up to date. Pediatric Pathology (see Pediatric Pathology pages)Postmortem Medicine (see also Forensics and Toxicology)The Johns Hopkins autopsy resource is a searchable database of some 50,000 autopsy reports. The page also contains links to a variety of other autopsy and general pathology resources. See also image archive. Surgical PathologyAmerican Journal of Surgical Pathology. Paris-based pathologist Marc Putterman has biopsy/cytology image databases for ophthalmic, gyn, and breast pathology, and a collection of links for these areas. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center skeletal dysplasia registry has links for physicians to International Nosology and Classification of Constitional Disorders of Bone and to Molecular Pathogenetic Classification of Genetic Disorders of the Skeleton. PathologyOutlines.com. Surgical pathology outlines (adrenal gland, ampulla of Vater, bladder, breast, etc.) with links to journal articles and gross and microscopic images. Also, extensive listings of pathology related jobs, fellowships and conferences. Tumor Board. Searchable archive of tumor images, instructions for submitting images, list of members available by e-mail to comment on images, sign-up form for new members, manual on digital imaging (from ASCP workshop). Hosted by the University of Pittsburgh and underwritten by Fujisawa, this highly professional site has a storehouse of information including discussion forums, organ-specific images and tutorials, and even a whole textbook on diagnostic liver pathology. Veterinary PathologyAmerican College of Veterinary Pathologists has information on certifying examinations as well as the usual professional resources such as a newsletter, events calendar, and so forth. AFIP Department of Veterinary Pathology has an archive of weekly case conferences and information on the pathology of lab animals. The Jackson Laboratory has a page re Mouse Genome Informatics that also includes a section on Mouse Tumor Biology and links to additional resources.
