Telomeres Might Predict Lung Cancer Recurrence

Telomeres are sections of DNA that tell an interesting story about lifespan. Shorter telomeres usually suggest a shorter life -- but new research by a Wilmot lung cancer expert shows that longer telomeres might be a promising biomarker for a recurrence of early stage lung cancer.

Meds for ADHD, Depression Dangerous in Patients with Heart Rhythm Disorder

Last week, several members of URMC’s Heart Research Follow-up team presented new research at the American Heart Association’s Annual Scientific Sessions in Dallas. Among the findings – medications for ADHD and depression are dangerous in patients with Long QT syndrome, a disorder that makes the heart particularly susceptible to arrhythmias.

URMC Research Dominates Heart Rhythm Society Meeting

With 20-plus abstracts and several prominent lectures and presentations, URMC’s Heart Research Follow-up Program team made their mark at the Heart Rhythm Society’s Annual Scientific Sessions in Denver in May. The diverse team included medical students and residents, research fellows and faculty, all led by Wojciech Zareba, M.D., Ph.D., and Arthur J. Moss, M.D., both international experts on electrical disturbances of the heart.
