- What is the In Depth Experience?
Each medical student as requirement of the medical curriculum, is expected to pursue in-depth the study of an area of interest leading to the preparation of a hypothesis-driven, written, referenced report of scholarly substance. The subject matter may be either preclinical or clinical, and the projects may be based on a literature review, a clinical problem, or a personal research experience. The in-depth experience cannot be substituted by a report prepared as a course requirement. However, a report or presentation prepared as a course requirement may serve as a starting point for the project. Its planning and execution will be supervised by a member of the medical faculty, and review and approval of submitted reports are duties of this faculty advisor. Please note that the report must be accompanied by a cover letter from a U of R faculty member, attesting to the scholarliness of the work and the fact that it meets the criteria of the In-Depth Experience.Students who are obtaining the degree M.D. with Distinction in Research or enrolled in this School's M.D./Master's or M.D./Ph.D. programs may fulfill this obligation either by submitting work completed as part of their combined or special degree program or by pursuing an in-depth experience in another area.
