2008 Summer Research Training Program
Research
opportunities are available for highly qualified dental students.
Candidates should be matriculated dental students or students
accepted into dental school and must be U.S. citizens or
permanent residents. The program runs approximately May 30
through August 10. Students receive a stipend of approximately
$3,400. Housing will be provided by the University of Rochester.
Assistance with transportation costs may be available for
those that can demonstrate need. Some individual adjustments
to these dates may be possible to accommodate dental school
schedules or national board exams. The objective of the program
is to expose students to the opportunities available in an
academic-based career. Research training is offered in biochemistry,
developmental biology, pharmacology, physiology, molecular
biology, and microbiology and immunology. In addition, trainees
attend a weekly seminar to share their program experiences
with each other. Particular emphasis is placed on recruiting
minority students, career counseling and follow-up to help
summer trainees in achieving their educational and ultimate
career goals. Candidates will be selected on the basis of
their application, letters of reference, and academic record.
Prior experience in research is not necessary.
