Research Overview

Morphogenesis and stem cell biology of the esophagus
Research in the Que lab is focused on elucidating molecular and cellular mechanisms controlling proliferation and differentiation of esophageal stem/progenitor cells in the esophagus. We use a combination of cell biology, biochemistry and genetic studies with in vivo mouse models to address the issue. We believe that basic knowledge about the stem cell biology will yield important insights into clinical problems including esophageal agenesis in embryos and Barrett’s esophagus and cancer in adults. Together, these disorders place a substantial burden on the health care system.
