A Conference in Memory of Andrei Yakovlev

Dr. Andrei Yakovlev was an outstanding scientist and natural leader whose life was cut short in February 2008 while he was at the height of his career. During the course of his long career he made definitive and lasting contributions in many fields at the intersection of mathematics, biology and statistics. Some examples include branching stochastic processes and associated statistical inference, stochastic models in radiation biology, cell population dynamics, carcinogenic risk assessment, stochastic models of carcinogenesis, optimal scheduling of cancer surveillance and screening, cure models in survival analysis, statistical inference from microarray gene expression data and genetic regulatory networks. The Conference brought together colleagues and collaborators of Dr. Yakovlev and others who have been influenced by his work or who have worked in related areas. Invited speakers who presented papers include Anthony Almudevar, Bernard Asselain, Linlin Chen, Lutz Edler, Alexander Gordon, Yuriy Gusev, Leonid Hanin, Ollivier Hyrien, Nikolay Ianev, Peter Jagers, Nicholas Jewell, Hartmut Land, Marianthi Markatou, Suresh Moolgavkar, Mark Noble, Xing Qiu, John Storey, Aniko Szabo, Alexander Tsodikov, Elart von Collani and Marvin Zelen. 

There was opportunity for contributed papers in the form of a poster session.
