Advancement News - November 2012

By Monica Lewis
Executive Director of Advancement
James P. Wilmot Cancer Center

Monica LewisOne of my goals as Executive Director of Advancement for Wilmot is to build connections between the faculty and staff of the cancer center and the donors who support us. This space will sometimes highlight donor stories so that you can learn what has inspired their philanthropic investment in our work, and how philanthropy can make an impact in our fight against cancer.

Another key goal for my team is to build community awareness of how Wilmot is leading the way for cancer research and care in our region. Dr. Friedberg and I value your participation in community-based initiatives, and I will use this space to communicate information about how you can get involved. From the individual donors who fund professorships, seed grants for research, and provide support for nurses and patients in need, to the hundreds of supporters who attend our Discovery Ball, to the dozens of groups who run their own fundraisers to support us, it is evident that the Wilmot Cancer Center is part of the fabric of this community. This year, I hope you can each find ways to show your appreciation for the community’s investment in us.

You have a team of committed professionals working to bring support for Wilmot:

Mary Koegel is Associate Director of Advancement and is focused on increasing philanthropic support for Wilmot through individual giving. Carrie Donnelly is Assistant Director for the Office of Advancement, responsible for managing a portfolio of prospects and soliciting and closing George Eastman Circle gifts and Corporate Gifts. The George Eastman Circle provides a critical funding stream for Wilmot’s most pressing needs. Our growing corporate partnerships have resulted in significant support for Wilmot. Karen Humbert is Associate Director for Community Events and works closely with third party fundraising events that benefit Wilmot. She is leading the efforts for Wilmot’s first media-day to raise funds for seed grants with Channel 13 in January, and along with a committee, planning the inaugural cancer survivorship celebration and walk on June 2nd. Shannon Martin is the Assistant Director of JPWCC Donor Engagement and Events.  Shannon helps to plan and execute campaign and board-related activities, including the Discovery Ball. Shannon also serves as liaison to our young professionals group, the Wish List Society. Laurie Christensen serves as the administrative assistant.
