Funding Opportunities - November 2012

WCC Seed Grants Available

As a reminder, seed funding is being made available to cancer researchers throughout URMC through grants provided by the Wilmot Cancer Center. The grants are in varying amounts, up to $100,000 RFA’s must be submitted by November 1 and directed to Brian Martin, Associate Director of the Wilmot Cancer Center. The Wilmot Cancer Center Research Advisory Committee will review grant requests and recommend awards.

Kimmel Scholar Award and Kimmel Translational Sciences Award

The Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer research is accepting applications for two awards: The Kimmel Scholar Award and the Kimmel Translational Sciences Award.

Kimmel Scholar Award: Ten grants of $200,000 ($100,000 per year for two years) will be made to qualified M.D. and Ph.D. applications. Applicants must be Assistant Professors, appointed on or after July, 2009. Physicians who have both clinical and research responsibilities are eligible if appointed on or after July, 2008. Applicants may not yet have R01 funding.

Kimmel Translational Science Award: This award is for physicians engaged in translational science. Applicants must have an M.D. degree and have been appointed as an Assistant Professor on or after July, 2008. The award is for $200,000 over two years ($100,000 per year). The research may involve primarily animal studies but must include reasonable application to human investigation. Five awards will be made.

Open Submission: There is no limitation on the number of applicants from the same institution and institutional nomination is not required. A letter of support from the applicant’s chair is required.

Deadline: The foundation deadline is December 5, 2012. Per university policy, applicants should apply 5 days early (December 1) and furnish Foundation Relations with a copy of their application 10 days early (November 26). The application is to be submitted electronically and in paper format. Interested faculty should contact Dr. Paul A.   • Personal statement (1-2 pages)
  • Budget (1 page)
  • Personal References: Three letters of reference, each 1-2 pages, including one from the department chair
