George UscholdWilmot Cancer Center Staff Profile:  George Uschold

Position:  Director of Operations, Radiation Oncology

Employed at URMC Since: 1985

What I love most about my job: First, the individuals I work with and the patients we care for. Second, the daily challenges I encounter in my position which requires me to partner with many interesting individuals within URMC and its affiliates to deliver high quality service. These are extraordinary people that I have the pleasure to work with on a daily basis.

If I could choose an occupation other than my current one, it would be:   Teaching! I started my career in radiation therapy as an educator and transitioned into administration. My ideal retirement career would be to get back into the classroom and teach an occasional course.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy: At this point in my life I treasure spending time with my grandson and of course my wife and daughters. Luckily my four daughters all remain in the Rochester area so it has especially nice watching them move though the many phases of their lives and even nicer now that they have all moved out and are doing well on their own.  I also enjoy bike riding on the Erie Canal, boating on Canandaigua Lake during the warm season and hockey in winter.

Something that people might be surprised to know about me:  I have 3 CD’s in circulation, performed at the World’s Fair in NYC in 1964 at the NY pavilion.

Last good movie I watched: Argo – it brought me back to the late ‘70’s and international issues that we faced.
