Mission Statement
The Peri-FACTS® Academy is committed to providing high-quality, convenient, cost-effective, continuing professional education for healthcare providers practicing in obstetrics and gynecology.
The Peri-FACTS® Academy strives to stimulate and maintain a communication network among participating agencies and the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
History
The program was initiated by James R. Woods, Jr., M.D., Henry A. Thiede Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester's Strong Memorial Hospital, where more than 4,000 babies are delivered each year. Dr. Woods and the perinatal nursing and education staff who produce the Peri-FACTS program have extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of perinatal care.
The initial motivation that led to the development of Peri-FACTS was the need to provide quality outreach education to our regional referring hospitals in the Rochester, NY, area. In many of these hospitals, obstetric nurses provide a large component of the primary care for women in labor and delivery units. We felt it essential that these nurses have access to information which would validate their individual skills and raise the standard of patient care, without taking them away from their daily responsibilities. This "on-site" obstetric program was developed to reach all of these individuals easily, conveniently, and cost-effectively.
There are currently more than 600 hospitals/perinatal centers and over 12,000 individuals in 49 states across the nation and abroad taking part in the program.
