Ask A Medical Librarian
Has your child just been diagnosed with a disease or condition? Has your pediatrician just prescribed a new test, drug, or other treatment for your child? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes" and you want information, the Ask A Medical Librarian (AAML) service offered by the Edward G. Miner Library at the University of Rochester Medical Center will provide it for you.
Initiating A Request
The process is simple:
- Print out the AAML Overview and give it to your physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, or social worker to be sure that they are aware of it.
Request that one of the above providers complete and submit an "Information Prescription" (IP) so you can obtain the information that you need. - Submit the IP using either of the options below:
- Your physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, or social worker can complete the online form and submit it electronically.
- You can print out the above form and ask any of the above providers to complete it and fax it to Miner Library using the fax number at the top of the form.
- Once Miner librarians receive the electronically submitted or faxed IP, we will contact you and follow-up with appropriate information from consumer-friendly resources in the Miner Library or trustworthy web sites.
Availability
This service is available to the families of all pediatric patients whose physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, or social worker is affiliated with the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), including Strong Memorial Hospital, Golisano Children's Hospital, Highland Hospital, or outpatient physician offices. If you're unsure of their affiliation, just ask – they'll know.
If your child's physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, or social worker is not affiliated with any of the above entities, you are invited to use the Miner Library's on-site collections and services.
