General Cardiology

Every day of the week pediatric cardiologists evaluate patients in the general cardiology clinic. These visits provide comprehensive evaluations and management of children and adolescents with heart related conditions including congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, acquired heart diseases or new referrals for common cardiac symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations or syncope. The pediatric cardiologist is responsible for your child's care but other members of the cardiac team including cardiology fellows and nurse practitioners may also participate in the visit.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Once your child has registered for the visit, he or she will be asked to complete a personal history form. After that, a staff member will measure vital signs including weight, height and blood pressure. Often an EKG is performed. Afterwards, you and your child will be escorted to an examining room to meet with a member of the cardiac team. During this time, a comprehensive history and physical examination will be performed. Depending on what the cardiologist learns, additional testing may be ordered such as 2-dimensional echocardiography, exercise stress testing, or Holter/event monitoring. We will make every effort to perform all necessary testing on the day of your first visit. In many cases, return visits aren't necessary. The length of your visit will vary depending upon the necessary testing. Please set aside a minimum of 2 hours for your visit.
