These recreation facilities are located on the 4th floor of the Golisano Children's Hospital:
The Children's Playroom is used by patients up to age 10 and is open daily. Arts and crafts projects and a wide variety of play activities are provided in the morning. This program is run by Child Life with the help of volunteers. The room is available for use by patients and siblings at other times as long as a parent is present to supervise. Toys are able to be borrowed for in room activities.
This room is stocked with toys and books and provides a space
for families to play with their children. It is not a supervised
area, so an adult is required.
Recreation Room (4-1400)
The recreation room is used by adolescent patients and their visitors. It houses computers, a juke box, an air hockey table, fooseball, and a variety of games, puzzles, and books. Group activities such as art projects and music group are offered. Activity programs for teens are posted on the unit.
We have a specially designed and equipped school room available for small group and individual tutoring. Tutoring is coordinated by the child life specialists and provided by the appropriate school districts in this normal classroom environment. Internet-accessible computers as well as the more traditional modalities are available in this room.
The Christie Simonetti Playdeck (4-2313)
The Christie Simonetti Playdeck is open to all pediatric patients and their families. It is open daily, with hours posted on the door. The playdeck is a partially enclosed play area which provides a chance to escape, relax and have fun. There are a variety of activities (basketball, reading areas, air-hockey, etc.) with benches and lots of windows. In nice weather, the sliding doors are open for access to fresh air. This is also where large group activities such as the weekly picnic and other special events take place.
Toy Lending Library
A collection of donated toys and activities is available and each patient is allowed to borrow two at a time. This room is staffed by volunteers. Hours are posted on the door.
