A Next Generation Hospital Dedicated to Children
New Plans for Tower Add More Family and Play Spaces
Golisano Children’s Hospital has nationally ranked and recognized programs, researchers, physicians, nurses and staff. It has become a destination of choice for families searching for the best possible care for their children. Yet it lacked the ideal facilities to match these high caliber qualities. By having its own building, a hospital dedicated to children will take us to new levels of excellence for the 21st century, transform how our teams treat infants, children and adolescents, and how we provide patient- and family-centered care for our children.
B. Thomas Golisano’s $20 million lead gift has bolstered plans to construct a $180-million, eight-story, 245,000 square-foot dedicated children’s hospital, the largest capital project in the history of the Medical Center and the University of Rochester.
The facility will allow patients to be grouped by disease or injury. This will give the hospital more opportunities to specially train nurses and staff to become experts in treating childhood diseases, injuries and common ailments. It will also allow us to support the growing and integral role parents play in their child’s care, from closely interacting with the medical staff during their child’s stay, to ensuring an optimal transition from hospital to home.
Highlights Of Our New State-Of-The-Art Hospital
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The 60-bed expanded unit will give families more space and privacy, while also providing more opportunities for families to learn how to care for their fragile child before being discharged.
56 Private Rooms
These rooms will ensure greater comfort for children, families, and caregivers, and enhanced infection control. They will provide increased family privacy and ample space for families to fully participate in their child’s care.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PICU/PCICU)
These units will be part of the new building, so all of the hospital’s inpatients are collocated in one child- and family-friendly place.
Pediatric Radiology Facilities
To enhance patient safety we will place pediatric services in close proximity to the inpatient floor. Children will no longer need to be moved through adult and non-patient care space for radiologic procedures and tests.
