Golisano Children’s Hospital Campaign
Meliora – ever better. It is the motto of the University of Rochester. But what does it mean for Golisano Children’s Hospital and the children and families we serve?
A century ago, children routinely died of infections and nutritional deficiencies. A decade ago, these diseases had all but disappeared, only to be replaced by childhood cancer, congenital heart and brain disease, and premature birth that claimed the lives of countless children. Now, most of these children live, often well into adulthood. And we have trained a generation of physicians who have never seen a case of measles or a child who died of a hole in the heart.
But our work is far from done. Our challenge now is to keep these young adults living with, or treated for, childhood diseases healthy throughout their lifetimes. We must discover how to prevent childhood disease rather than just treating it when it occurs. And when we treat existing disease, we must learn to prevent the complications of that treatment and of the chronicity of that disease.
We are therefore proud to unveil our bold plan to use what we have learned in our clinics, in our laboratories, in our classrooms, and in our communities to build a state-of-the art children’s hospital and to attract and retain the world’s best pediatric biomedical scientists and educators. We want to make what is “best” today, ever better. Just as our predecessors made the lives of children longer and healthier, you can ensure that our children and their children and their children’s children are the beneficiaries of “Medicine of the Highest Order,” custom-made for kids and families. Join us as we forge a healthy future for generations to come.
