The Validation of Anxiety Rating Scales in Parkinson's Disease
| Purpose | It is estimated that up to 30% of Parkinson?s disease patients suffer from panic disorder and up to 11% from generalized anxiety disorder. Anxiety in PD is associated with increased motor symptoms, more severe gait problems and dyskinesias, as well as with freezing and on/off fluctuations. Anxiety symptoms in PD patients have also been shown to have negative impact on health related to quality of life. The rating scales used to assess anxiety symptoms have not been adequately studied in Parkinson?s disease patients. The University of Rochester is conducting a study find out how well these scales are in assessing anxiety symptoms in PD patients. The purposes of this study are to assess the value of the most commonly used anxiety rating scales for measuring anxiety in patients with PD and to determine the frequency and types of anxiety symptoms associated with PD. | |||
