Kinematics of reaching and dyskinesias in Parkinson Disease
| Purpose | The main purpose of the study is to learn more about how involuntary movements caused by the medications used to treat Parkinson Disease ("dyskinesias") may affect intentional movements such as picking up a cup to take a drink. Dyskinesias are a common complication of long-term treatment for PD, and medication adjustments that reduce dyskinesias often come at the cost of worsened PD symptoms. An improved understanding of how dyskinesias and intentional movements are affected by PD medications is essential for developing better treatments for PD. In this study, we will record your movements using video cameras, and also measure the activity of various muscles using sensors placed on the skin, while you are resting and while you are performing a few simple tasks such as holding your arms out or reaching for a cup. | |||
