Faculty Positions Available

The Center for Neurodegenerative and Vascular Brain Disorders will be developed through faculty recruitments from full professor to assistant professor in the following areas of strategic interest:

  • Cerebrovascular angiopathy in Alzheimer’s disease with emphasis on vascular smooth muscle cell biology, hemorrhagic stroke and 2-photon imaging
  • Neuroinflammatory and vascular mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease with emphasis on microglia biology and microglia/monocytes blood-brain barrier trafficking
  • Models of multiple sclerosis with emphasis on leucocytes (T lymphocytes) trafficking at the blood-brain barrier
  • Models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and clinical studies
  • Structural-functional studies on protein C/protein S system
  • Biomedical imaging with emphasis on MRI neurovascular imaging of the blood flow and blood-brain barrier permeability in man and in animal models
  • Blood-brain barrier and CSF markers and new genomic and proteomic platforms in animal models and man.

Successful candidates will have dual appointments in Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neurobiology and Anatomy, Medicine, Brain and Cognitive Sciences and/or other academic departments. There will be an ample opportunity for collaborations and scientific interactions with other researchers in the Medical Center and within the University.

Postdoctoral Positions in the Zlokovic laboratory (Center for Neurodegenerative and Vascular Brain Disorders).

The Zlokovic laboratory, at the forefront of translational research using cutting edge technologies in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Stroke, has vacancies for two enthusiastic and energetic postdoctoral fellows.

1) To work on the molecular mechanisms for the control of cerebral blood flow in AD using techniques such as 2-photon microscopy, Laser Speckle, Laser Doppler, and autoradiography.

Qualifications and experience: PhD in Molecular Biology/Physiology or equivalent biological areas in Alzheimer’s disease. Experience in blood flow studies using techniques such as 2-photon microscopy or Laser Doppler is required but training will be provided. Experiences with in vivo studies and ability to work as a team are essential.

Responsibilities: These include but not limited to the following:
* Conduct all in vivo studied on cerebral blood flow regulation in models of AD, using appropriate techniques.
* Develop a mechanistic approach for the regulation of CBF in AD.
* Analyze and present data, as required.
* Prepare paper for publication, as required.
* Analysis of data.

2) The second postdoctoral person will work on the role of copper and cholesterol in the clearance of Aβ from brain in AD.

Qualifications and experience: PhD in Molecular Biology/Physiology or equivalent biological areas in AD. Experiences in cell culture and in vivo studies are essential. Experience with metal ions and protein trafficking, using confocal and 2-photon microscopy, is required.

Responsibilities: These include but not limited to the following:

* Conduct all studied on copper/cholesterol in models of AD, using appropriate techniques.
* Develop a mechanistic approach for copper’s regulation of Aβ trafficking from brain.
* Amyloid-β transport studies across Human Brain Endothelial Cells using imaging techniques.
* Analyze and present data, as required.
* Prepare paper for publication, as required.
* Analysis of data.
