Advanced Life Support Certification

Thank you for your interest in the Advanced Life Support Courses at the University of Rochester Medical Center. In 2010 the American Heart Association released the updated guidelines for resuscitation based on the latest science. Therefore, we are ready to provide the latest information to our attendees in the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) programs.

The URMC American Heart Association Training Center is honored to have Faculty that have had a significant role in authoring the new PALS materials. Additionally, several Training Center Faculty have appointments as State and Regional Faculty members, therefore enhancing the quality of our programs.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The PALS Program is designed for healthcare providers who are involved in the care of critically ill children. The PALS curriculum consists of both didactic sessions and skill stations. The program is designed around the Evaluate, Identify and Intervene model.

The University of Rochester Medical Center American Heart Training Center PALS program offers agencies the opportunity to host a PALS provider or renewal course onsite. The ALS Coordinator will work with your staff to schedule and present the complete PALS program at your facility. Minimum class sizes and some restrictions apply. Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition & Stabilization

The PEARS course is offered to agencies and institutions needing staff trained in the “Assess, Categorize, Decide and Act” model of PALS, but does not provide patient care to acutely ill children on a regular basis.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) program teaches healthcare provider how to recognize patients experiencing a life threatening cardiovascular emergency and management of a patient in sudden cardiac arrest. The ACLS program integrates both didactic and hands on learning. Students have to pass a written evaluation and a megacode skills station for successful completion.
