OVERVIEW
Dr. Ossip directs the Smoking Research Program, which focuses on community based interventions and underserved populations. She is principal investigator on two NIH-funded projects. The first is a tobacco research and capacity building project in 6 economically disadvantaged communities in the Dominican Republic. The second is a US and Canadian project examining promotional strategies to engage underserved populations to call quitlines. She also directs a state-funded contract to deliver proactive telephone counseling and OTC nicotine replacement medications to Medicaid and uninsured smokers across New York State through the NYS Smokers' Quitline. Recent projects include a statewide trial of various combinations of mail and telephone interventions for mid-life and older smokers, a multi-county trial of primary care interventions for adolescent smoking, and a national survey of smoking attitudes, beliefs, and policies regarding smoking in nursing homes. Dr. Ossip is Member Delegate for North America for the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, and is a member of various other local, state, national, and international committees, working groups, and advisory boards for tobacco prevention and control issues.
