Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Social and Behavioral Medicine (SBM) is to promote the public health through:

• Inter/transdisciplinary focus on 1) the application of behavioral and social science approaches to the prevention, treatment, and management of physical disease and illness; and 2) the identification of relationships among behavioral, social, and biological factors in health

• Supporting a range of research methodologies including basic, applied intervention, and translational social and behavioral medicine research

• Targeting individual, community, and societal levels with this range of methodologies

• Addressing special population needs

• Fostering collaboration, education, and mentoring of investigators

• Fostering education and mentoring of students

• Providing community education and outreach
