Academic phase (Year 1)

Residents will undertake full-time study toward a Masters in Public Health degree. The M.P.H. program has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report among the very best in the country. The curriculum includes satisfactory completion of core requirements in: biostatistics; epidemiology; environmental and occupational health; social and behavioral sciences; health administration; United States health care system policy; research methods; writing requirement; data management; ethics; a substantial research project; and elective courses. Details on the MPH curriculum are available here.

In addition to the MPH curriculum, residents will participate in orientation sessions in July/August of Year I, as well as introductory field visits to the Practicum Rotation sites to assist in planning for the Practicum Year. Also, mentors for the scholarly projects will be identified during July and August of Year I. Beginning in Year I, and carrying through Year II, residents participate in a residency-focused Preventive Medicine Journal Club. The residents’ scholarly project will also be completed during the training period, in fulfillment of the MPH degree requirements.
