The CTSI offers a variety of pre- and post-doctoral training programs to develop collaborative, interdisciplinary clinical and translational researchers, and also offers an innovative mentor development program.
The core of the program is the Rochester Clinical and Translational Research Curriculum (RCTRC). The RCTRC supports a Master of Science degree in Clinical Investigation available to physicians and others with a clinically-relevant doctoral degree. A new, innovative PhD program in Translational Biomedical Science is now accepting applications for admission. The RCTRC program also plans to offer a Master of Science in Translational Research program beginning in Spring 2009. The RCTRC also supports a variety of skill-building workshops to complement didactic training.
At the pre-doctoral level, the CTSI offers support for medical students interested in a Year-Out experience in translational research. Most of these students will enter through the Academic Research Track. Students may take advantage of the Masters degree programs offered through the RCTRC, or structure their own research experience in collaboration with a chosen mentor. The CTSI also offers a Medical Scientist Training Program which supports students pursuing combined MD/PhD degrees, interested in clinical and translational research.
For junior faculty, the CTSI offers a K12 mentored career development program which provides generous support for protected time for research, funds for research training through the RCTRC, and funds for research expenses.
An innovative Mentor Development program is available to mentors of CTSI trainees. It features an online didactic training program, Workshops on Academic Development, and support for the development of a Research Career Development Plan for the trainee. A Faculty Development Colloquium is offered to all University faculty on an annual basis.
