TL1 Predoctoral Training Programs

Year-Out Program for Medical Students

Robert GrossThe CTSI supports medical students interested in a year-out experience of mentored research in clinical or translational research. We anticipate most students will enter through the Academic Research Track (ART), since the ART curriculum was the basis for the program developed within the CTSI. While participation in ART is strongly encouraged, it is not required for application for CTSI support. There are seven supported slots per year; students are selected based on an application for funding (with a March 1st deadline). Students who are selected as CTSI scholars receive stipend support. Further, the student's mentor receives funds to help support research activities. Students who are interested in pursuing a Master's degree during the year-out are encouraged to do so. Requirements for all students include participation in an approved Ethics course, certification in human subjects research, and completion of a research paper after the research experience.
