On behalf of the Rochester Melanoma Action Group, the Department of Dermatology is soliciting applications for a grant focusing on melanoma research. The award will support one innovative project in the area of basic, translational, clinical, behavioral, or epidemiological melanoma research. The deadline is March 15th. The Center for Integrative Bioinformatics and Experimental Mathematics will award two to three grants per year to fund collection of bioinformatics data. The University of Rochester Core Center for Musculoskeletal Biology and Medicine is requesting applications from new investigators for funding of pilot projects. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), an organization of 21 Pacific-Rim countries, including the United States, has announced the 2012 competition for its ASPIRE Prize. The prize is awarded to a young scientist in an APEC-member country who has demonstrated research excellence. This ASPIRE Prize (APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education) will honor a young scientist who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in scientific research, has cooperated with scientists from other APEC-member economies, and has contributed to this year’s theme of health innovation. The Brain Research Foundation has invited UR to nominate one senior faculty member to apply for the 2013 Scientific Innovations Award. This program supports projects that may be too innovative for traditional funding sources, but still have a high likelihood of producing important findings. The award totals $300,000 over two years. URMC is partnering with the Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research at Temple University to fund the new “Drug Discovery Pilot Award Program.” The program will help researchers identify and test chemical compounds that could be candidates for new drugs.
