Year-Out Program for Medical Students

Matthew Brown Project Title: Molecular, Cellular, and Tissue Abnormalities Leading to Impaired Fracture Healing in C57BL/6J Marine Model of Type II Diabetes Matthew Brown is currently a third year medical student. His primary mentor is Regis O'Keefe, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics.

Angel Kirkham Project Title: Belize: A Case Study of a Community Mental Health Program in a Developing Nation Angel Kirkham is currently a third year medical student pursuing a Masters degree in Public Health. Her primary mentor is Nancy Chin, PhD, MPH, Associate Professor in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine.

Ryan Koehler Project Title: Development and Validation of the Arthroscopic Surgery Skill Evaluation Tool (ASSET) Ryan Koehler is currently a third year medical student pursuing a Masters degree in Health Professions Education at the Warner School of Education. His primary mentor is Gregg Nicandri, MD, Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics.

Ron Menorca Project Title: Determining EPO's role in accelerating functional recovery of meme in a mouse chronic neuropathy model Ron Menorca will be starting his Year-Out in June 2012.

Doran Mix Project Title: Computer Assisted Surgery Tool for Hemodialysis Fistulas (CAST-HDF) Doran Mix is currently a third year medical student. His primary mentor is Ankur Chandra, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Vascular Surgery and Biomedical Engineering.

David Paul Project Title: Using DTI to measure changes in occipital lobe white matter after decompression of the optic chiasm David Paul will be starting his Year-Out in June 2012.

Clifford Pierre Project Title: The Role of Altered Cerebrospinal Fluid Dynamics after Brain Surgery Clifford Pierre will be starting his Year-Out in June 2012.

Michael Prucha Project Title: Healthcare Worker's Role in Tobacco Control in the Dominican Republic Michael Prucha will be starting his Year-Out in June 2012.

Yaoli Pu Project Title: P75 Neurotrophin Receptor Signaling and Trafficking Yaoli Pu will be starting her Year-Out in June 2012.

Brandon Stein Project Title: The Relationship Between Subconcussive Head Trauma and Markers of Brain Injury Brandon Stein is currently a third year medical student pursuing a Masters degree in Public Health. Laura Fornarola Project Title: Determining the role of the proryl isomerase Pin1 in neuronal programmed cell death Laura Fornarola is a MD/PhD student training with the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology. She is in her third year of the program. Dr. Robert Freeman, Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology, will serve as her primary mentor.

Natalia Golub Project Title: Longitudinal Health Outcomes in Former Refugees Natalia Golub is a MD/PhD student in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine. She is in her third year of the Epidemiology PhD program. Her mentor is Diana Fernandez, MD, MPH, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine.. Her research interests include disparities in access and quality of healthcare, refugee health, preventive medicine, and pediatrics.
