Centers of Excellence for Research on CAM (P01)

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) has issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to establish Centers of Excellence for Research on Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). The Centers require synergistic collaboration between outstanding scientists, and the synthesis of multiple research approaches by multi-disciplinary research teams.

The CERC mechanism is designed to support research in which the funding of three or four synergistic, highly meritorious projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of the same projects as individual research grants. Throughout the duration of the award, each CERC must consist of three or four research projects focused on basic, mechanistic, and/or translational research questions relevant to the research priorities described in the current NCCAM Strategic Plan.

This is a limited submission program. The University may submit only one (1) grant application. Interested faculty members at the Medical Center must submit an abstract, CV, and budget to Dean Puzas (Catherine_muzytchuk@urmc.rochester.edu) by May 24, using the words “CERC CAM” in the subject line. Interested faculty members on the River Campus must submit an abstract, CV, and budget to the Deans via Debra Haring (debra.haring@rochester.edu) by May 24.

Deans will forward their ranked nominations to Mary Ann Davis in the Provost’s Office by June 15. The Provost’s selection of the application moving forward to the NIH will be announced on June 25.

The complete program announcement can be found here. The deadline for receipt of full applications is September 25.

It is important to remember that ORPA must receive electronic proposals five (5) business days prior to the sponsor’s deadline, along with a completed and signed University sign-off form.
