Frontiers in Stem Cell Medicine Symposium
Date: Friday, May 23, 2008
Location: Class of 62 Auditorium, University of Rochester Medical Center
The University of Rochester Medical Center, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the Department of Biomedical Genetics have joined together to present the Frontiers in Stem Cell Medicine Symposium on Friday, May 23, 2008. The symposium will also include a poster session featuring members of the University of Rochester Stem Cell Research Community. The Frontiers in Stem Cell Medicine Symposium will help foster such collaborative efforts in two primary ways. First, the symposium will bring physicians, clinical researchers, and basic science researchers together for a day of concentrated interaction. Second, by featuring five lectures by internationally recognized experts in stem cell medicine (four from the University of Rochester and one from the National Institutes of Health), the symposium will provide an education in the current state of the art and possibilities presented by stem cell medicine. The School of Medicine and Dentistry has also designated this educational activity for a maximum of 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The conference is designed so that at its conclusion, participants should be able to:
• Discuss what stem cell medicine is and how it is likely to impact research and clinical care in the next decade
• Explain how stem cell medicine can provide new approaches to disease treatment in the central nervous system
• Describe how new advances in stem cell medicine will impact on the field of cancer treatment
• Discuss how stem cell medicine will impact fracture repair in the elderlyA list of speakers and their presentation topics can be found below.Registration for the Symposium is due by May 9th, 2008. Registration to participate in the Poster Session is due by May16th, 2008.
