Administrative Core (Core A)
CoDirector: Michael Keefer, MD
The Administrative Core oversees the progress of the entire D-CFAR and facilitates functions necessary for the day-to-day function of the D-CFAR through organizational and fiscal oversight, support of program communications and program evaluation, and creation of a bioinformatics resource.
The Administrative Core is directed by Dr. Steve Dewhurst, who is an experienced HIV/AIDS researcher and administrator. He is assisted by Dr. Michael Keefer, who serves as Co-Director of the Administrative Core. Dr. Keefer has extensive experience in the management of complex organizations through his work over the past 9 years with Dr. Larry Corey in establishing the NIAID-supported HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN).
The bioinformatics service is managed by Dr. Dongwen Wang, and is a centralized resource that supports all aspects of HIV/AIDS research within the D-CFAR. The bioinformatics service will coordinate and integrate existing clinical databases and data files that are currently scattered across different departments, centers, divisions, and labs, such that the existing data can be virtually integrated into a shared data repository to support various research needs. In addition, we will:
- Adapt systems and standards for general communication and data collection;
- Develop tools that enhance subject recruitment;
- Implement strategies for delivery of behavioral interventions;
- Facilitate collaboration with investigators in South Africa.
For basic researchers, analytical tools and software will be made available to support laboratory-based studies.
