Quality Improvement and Compliance

The office oversees quality of patient care and the safety of the patients, faculty, and staff of the Eastman Dental Center (EDC) site and more than 25 off-site locations.

SERVICES

Credentialing
Process and maintain a credential file for all medical/ dental staff granted appointments and clinical privileges at EDC.

Risk Management
A planned and systematic process to reduce and/or eliminate the probability of losses occurring at EDC. It consists of 3 distinct yet interrelated areas: risk identification and loss prevention, loss reduction, and risk financing. Risk management involves a multidisciplinary and proactive approach to be most effective in the dental setting.

Environmental Health and Safety Mission Statement:
To provide safety and advisory services to the EDC Community through managing risk, assessing and evaluating the environment, advocating safe work practices, providing quality educational programs and ensuring compliance with University and regulatory standards. The EH&S consists of these distinct yet interconnected units:

* Industrial Hygiene Unit-    occupational/workplace    safety
* Radiation Safety Officer
* Hazardous Waste    Management Unit
* Infection Control Program
* Workers' Compensation

Educates all dental care providers to recognize and appropriately respond to any medical emergent event

Quality Assurance

All dental faculty, staff, and support services involved with patient care are expected to provide the most effective and high quality care to patients. Faculty and staff monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient care and clinical performance, pursue opportunities to improve patient care and resolve concerns from consumers of the Center's services. The central focus of QA is to continuously work to improve the quality of care delivered to the patients of EDC.
