Master of Public Health : Generalist Track

Program Description

The Master of Public Health degree program at the University of Rochester was established in 1970 and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. It trains present and future health professionals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds by developing and enhancing their research, evaluative and planning abilities. The program aims to teach students skills for a rational and analytic approach to problem solving from both investigative and managerial perspectives. Graduates are prepared for roles in a wide variety of public and regulatory agencies, in profit and not-for-profit private health agencies, and in health services research.

The Department of Community and Preventive Medicine attracts a diversified group of students including recent college graduates, nurses, physicians, dentists, medical students and people with a wide variety of job experience in health related fields. Since part-time study is an option, students who are currently employed in the health field are also enrolled in the program. For clinicians, there are special opportunities in health services research and evaluation, and in the broader aspects of medical care management with emphasis on comprehensive health-care delivery. A limited number of tuition scholarships are available to qualified applicants.
