Research is playing
an increasing important role in Dentistry’s
future as we continually strive to find preventive and treatment
options in the oral health field. Whether it deals with the role
of neuronal function in craniofacial development or a longitudinal
study of lead exposure and dental caries, our investigators are working
in all levels of research from basic to translational.
Over the past two years, we have worked closely with the Center
for Oral Biology; we have had a significant increase in NIH ROI 1
grants; and continue to promote the opportunity to serve as a clinical
trial center.
We have four specific research goals: to boost our national reputation
as a research institution; to enhance clinical and translational
research; to better integrate basic with translational and clinical
research efforts; and to improve the overall quality and number of
research-intensive faculty.
