About this Conference

The University of Rochester, Department of Imaging Sciences, is pleased to invite you to attend its 8th Annual DHIMS Conference, "Getting Connected in Radiology…Interoperability & Workflow." The conference will be held March 25-29, 2008 at The Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio, Texas.

DHIMS 2008 will begin with a day-long PACS Primer that will cover the ABC's of implementing a digital environment and the impact the digital environment will have on the workflow and productivity of radiologists, technologists, PACS Administrators and referring physicians. The balance of the conference will discuss solutions to problems that impact radiology's ability to provide essential healthcare information efficiently to healthcare professionals throughout the digital healthcare environment. The following will be featured:

  • Availability and accessibility
  • Interoperability of clinical applications
  • Productivity Enhancements
  • Change management
  • Communications
  • Storage management
  • Maintaining DHIMS
  • Security, privacy and risk management
  • Economics of DHIMS

In addition to the above, technology updates will be presented on workstations, CR and DR, digital mammography, handling large data sets and optimizing the display of information. Based on the popularity of the “Ask the Experts” panels held at PACS 2007, DHIMS 2008 will feature 8 panels allowing attendees to question our nationally-recognized faculty on the various problem areas. The faculty will present both positive and negative experiences of operating in a digital environment. Attendees will have "hands-on" opportunities of working with and viewing the technical offerings of exhibitors.  Side-by-side comparisons of workstations, monitors, products and services is a great way to see that many offerings may look similar but the impact of workflow, productivity and intuitiveness of the applications may be quite different.

New to DHIMS 2008 will be a workstation workshop featuring integrated clinical applications and unique approaches to viewing large data sets plus opportunities for two or more exhibitors to demonstrate interoperability in solving the problems and solutions to be discussed at DHIMS 2008. Exhibitors will also have the opportunity to present faculty-reviewed technology papers demonstrating their ability to solve the problems to be discussed at DHIMS 2008.

Who Should Attend

Radiologists and other physicians who are planning to use or are currently using PACS and want to have a better understanding of the technology associated with the systems they use to interpret studies. This conference will enhance the efficiency of the physicians' workflow, increase their productivity and provide them with a basic understanding of medical informatics.

Radiology technologists will gain an understanding of the essentials to operate in a film-less and paperless environment and its impact on their productivity and workflow. The conference will also provide the technologists an opportunity to evaluate whether becoming a PACS Administrator is a field they would be interested in pursuing.

Current and aspiring PACS Administrators obtain a review of the basic information a Radiology PACS Administrator must comprehend and be capable of applying to the daily routine of a PACS Administrator. In addition they will have the opportunity of discussing the major problems facing DHIMS and learn about possible solutions.

Healthcare CEOs, CFOs, CIOs and IT professionals who need to understand the impact and integration requirements of managing images and data in a digital environment as well as the economic and risk management factors associated with implementing and operating an integrated healthcare environment.

DHIMS Vendors will be provided the basic understanding of the technology associated with the digital healthcare environment so they can communicate the attributes of their company's hardware and software applications that will help solve the clinical requirements of healthcare professionals. It is important that vendors learn what problems are holding back the progress of DHIMS along with possible solutions, i.e., potential product opportunities.
